Wellbeing
Welcome to the Wellbeing section of our school's website. At Salmestone Primary School, we recognise the importance of underpinning academic growth by nurturing the holistic well-being of our students.
This section provides resources, support, and guidance to help our students and their families, and to promote positive mental health practices among our school community.
Navigating the challenges of growing up can sometimes be overwhelming. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where students feel empowered to prioritise their wellbeing and seek assistance when needed. It is very important that if you have any worries or concerns about your safety, mental health or wellbeing you talk to a member of staff. This can be your tutor, a teacher or a member of the pastoral team.
In collaboration with students, parents, staff and mental health professionals, we have curated a range of resources to signpost you to.. Whether you're looking for information on coping strategies, stress management techniques during exams, or seeking support for yourself or a friend, you'll find valuable insights and practical tools to navigate the ups and downs of life.
Our goal is to promote a culture of open dialogue surrounding mental health, reducing stigma, and creating a sense of belonging within our school community.
Explore the resources available in this section, and remember, you are not alone.

On Wednesday 19th March, our Year 5/6 boys took part in the annual TKAT football league at Newlands Primary School. The children competed against other schools in our region and performed admirably; with 2 wins, a draw and no losses, the team came first overall and qualified for the 'Finals Day' to be held at Leyton Orient. Well done boys and good luck to the girls who are competing this week!

Last week, Year 5 were given the opportunity to visit Ursuline. The children had the opportunity to create routines on the Olympic style trampolines and also enjoyed bouldering. It was a fantastic opportunity and the children absolutely loved the experience. Have a look at some of these great action shots!

Year 2 enjoyed their trip to The Margate Bookshop for World Book Day. The children behaved beautifully on the walk there and back and were very excited to spend their World Book Day vouchers. They couldn't even make it back to school before they started reading! Thank you to everyone who made the trip possible; staff, volunteers and The Margate Bookshop who were so accommodating. 🥰 📖

Year 6 recently participated in the Safety in Action event, organised by SALUS, an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of young people. The children took part in a carousel of activities, where they met local police officers, British Rail representatives, Fire and Rescue teams, and many others. The event aimed to help children navigate their transition to secondary school and build their confidence in staying safe within the community. The children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and gained valuable insights from each group involved in the event.

Thank you to everyone who has already taken part in our Family Hubs awareness survey. If you haven't yet, there's still time to complete the survey and be in with a chance of winning a £50 voucher. The purpose of the survey is to help us to understand if Kent families are aware of the new Family Hubs offer, and how likely they are to use or recommend them. The findings will help us to make services for families as accessible as possible. You do not need to have used Family Hubs or know what they are to take part. Please visit https://letstalk.kent.gov.uk/family-hubs-awareness-survey by Monday 31 March to complete the survey. Kind regards, KCC's Consultation & Engagement Team

Salmestone Primary School are delighted to announce that they have been selected to participate in the government's pilot scheme for free breakfast club places for all primary school aged pupils. This early adopter phase is designed to inform the government’s national roll out, schools were chosen from across England to ensure the scheme tests and learns from a variety of locations. The school has been selected as one of 11 schools across Kent and the only school based in Thanet. The free breakfast club provision is due to start in April, giving staff time to look at processes and understand how places can be delivered in a way that builds on what is already happening at the Margate primary school, ensuring this meets the needs of existing families as well as those joining the school from September this year. Headteacher Thomas Platten is excited to be part of the scheme ‘We are looking forward to using this government funding to support families and ensure our pupils are given the best start to their day. Breakfast club fosters a greater sense of community amongst our pupils, promoting better school engagement throughout the day and we are delighted to be able to bring these benefits to a wider audience.’
